African Community Health Institute (ACHI)

 

African Community Health Institute (ACHI), a non-profit organization, has been formed to provide linguistically and culturally appropriate services to underserved African Immigrants and Refugees residing in the Bay Area.

 

Vision and Mission

The vision is to enable the African Immigrants access to appropriate public health services focusing on education, research and advocacy. The main mission is to improve and enrich the daily lives of African immigrants and refugee through linguistically and culturally competent health services that promotes early coping mechanisms, which leads to healthy integration and self sufficiency.

Programs and Services

ACHI has a variety of programs and services focusing on early intervention and prevention focusing on orientation, assessment, information and referrals to appropriate services through collaboration with other organizations so they can easily adjust to their social environment. Such programs and services include:

 

· Orientation and Assessment to new arrivals.

· Information and Referrals according to individual needs.

· Education and awareness of USA laws and legal systems.

· Research and documentation services.

· Advocacy services in bringing the gap between service provider and seekers.

· Linkage of resources for immigration & naturalization, health related services and other.

· Co-coordinating various volunteer-based classes such as nutrition, native language instruction for children, cooking for Women, and arts.

· Support group services on behavioral health issues.

· Languages (variety of African languages, Arabic, French, Spanish and Italian)

African immigrant and refugee Families living in the bay area.
